Juan Elizondo's roots are deeply entwined with the very community he serves. His passion for storytelling ignited in high school through his involvement in the yearbook program. In an era when many students faced the risk of dropping out, Elizondo developed skills that would become the foundation of his success in media production. College opened new doors, including a two-year internship at the Houston Chronicle and pivotal roles with the student newspaper at The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-Television-Film.
During his undergraduate journey, Elizondo thrived as the Multimedia Director for The Daily Texan, leading a talented team of 14 to numerous awards for their storytelling brilliance. He expanded his perspective with Students of the World, capturing powerful narratives in India and Kosovo. A transformative moment came with the "East Austin Stories" course, which deepened his commitment to preserving his community's history amidst gentrification.

Fueled by an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education, Elizondo seized the opportunity to innovate with XQ America. As a vocational educator for the past 12 years, he saw this as a chance to offer his students the privileges he had gained through internship programming. In 2020, 2021, and 2022, he created a paid internship program called” HTX Voices” at Furr High School, generously funded by XQ America. His mission: to revolutionize education by empowering underserved and diverse youth through the art of storytelling, multimedia production, and documentary creation.

Today, "HTX Voices" embarks on an exciting new chapter, led by HTX Multimedia Productions, powered by alumni and leaders of the internship program. Transitioning from summer internships to year-round projects with students and young adults. Actively seeking partnerships and funders to sustain and expand the programming.

Elizondo continues to use his skills in storytelling and media production to guide and inspire the next generation. By leveraging his extensive background and passion for education, Elizondo ensures that HTX Voices remains a cornerstone of uplifting students through the art of storytelling.
